Universities are demanded by society to contribute to economic and social development of their countries. Their scope and actions should go far beyond the inwardly-oriented paradigm focused exclusively on professors chairs, and should take a leading and essential place in the transformation of our community into a society of knowledge. The accomplishment of these new functions is, at the same time, a challenge and opportunity, which require that both our University and Faculty be integrated into international standards of leading chemistry research departments. It is then a stage of great changes and challenges for all higher education institutions in Chile.

Our main purposes are: to grow chemical and pharmaceutical science, in a rigorous and critical manner, developing a flexible and innovative curriculum through an educational project focused on students, incorporating both a first class academic staff and new methodologies and active learning techniques. Hence students could have a better academic experience in our Faculty since their first day until they obtain their degree.

Another purpose is to strive for developing cutting-edge research and innovation programs, interdisciplinary and world-wide oriented, through Ph.D. programs to be reflected in publications and other high impact disclosure forms. Besides, we want to enhance and strengthen undergraduate and graduate studies, either by preparing new scientists at Ph.D. level  at professional Master in Sciences and other  expressions of  education.

Finally, we seek to put our faculty at its best not only locally but also at international level, developing outreach programs that reflect its activities and commitment to service  our community and country, through engagement with the  alma mater principles and values of our University.
